Bombas Gens was an unusual hydraulic pump factory built by a bourgeois architect, Cayetano Borso di Carminati, in 1930. It is a jewel of Art Deco, one of the few examples of industrial architecture from the 1930s still standing. The promoters of the Fundació Per Amor a l’Art invested two years in its refurbishment, which was completed in 2017, bringing this emblematic building back to life, a life now devoted to art, research and solidarity, where you can also find spaces for organising events.
The refurbishment surprised with two elements of great heritage value: an underground cellar from the 15th century belonging to an old farmhouse and an air-raid shelter built during the Spanish Civil War. The rear part houses a modernist garden and the important site-specific sculptural piece by Cristina Iglesias, “A través” (Through).
All these elements together make the Bombas Gens Building, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest by the City Council of Valencia, a unique and singular space in the city that combines industrial heritage with art, history, social action and research.
This space is located in one of the warehouses attached to the art centre. The room has an independent entrance directly from the courtyard. It has audiovisual equipment and a videoconferencing system, as well as tables and chairs, which makes it one of the most suitable spaces for events in Valencia, ideal for meetings and presentations of reduced capacity. The room can be combined with small outdoor garden areas, perfect for coffee breaks and cocktails as a complement to these meetings and presentations.
